Purveyors of many farmer’s markets across South Florida such as the Lincoln Road Farmer’s Market, the Upper East Side Green Market and the Pinecrest Gardens Green Market, The Market Company is now bringing its eclectic mix of vendors to the Brickell district. Located in Mary Brickell Village in the 900 block of South Miami Avenue, the open-air market is starting to grow into its own in only in its second week of operation and runs every Sunday from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Currently they are selling specialty local foods, plants, flowers, arts & crafts, and hopefully farm-fresh fruits and veggies as the local growing season heats up.
Something sweet is definitely brewing in the neighborhood. The vendor mix is evolving and the sight of Hani Khouri of Hani’s Mediterranean Organic confirmed that local food producers are beginning to embrace the idea of a green market in the heart of the city. His fresh goat cheese and baba ghannouj will certainly have Brickell Life walking over for a weekly fix. Other vendors included The Ceviche Parlor, a honey guy, a couple tasty bakeries, empanadas, smoothies, orchids, plants, jewelry, drums, art and a few other interesting retailers as well.
We picked up some honey from a Loxahatchee farm and a couple freshly baked cranberry scones on top of Hani’s goods to cap off the morning. Must say it’s great to see the market gaining some traction after its opening weekend. There were quite a few people out mingling around, grabbing a coffee from Starbucks, having breakfast at Balans and shopping. Hope the local farms embrace the idea of a green market amid the skyscrapers of Brickell and we see some incredible produce, fruits and herbs make their way down as the weather cools and crops get planted.
