ING Miami Marathon 2011

The Marathon. Absolutely inspiring. According to the Miami Herald, nearly 20,000 participated from 79 countries. Interesting fact though - only about 5,000 people actually completed the whole marathon, while the rest peeled off at the half. Young, old, and people of all shapes and sizes took to the streets of Miami on Sunday morning to accomplish what most of us only fantasy doing. Even the eccentric were out in full force yesterday including Coatman, who was back to do his annual thing.

It may not have the top athletes or the allure of New York City or Boston, but there is something special about the Miami Marathon. Part street party, part race and part cultural celebration - nothing beats Miami in January. I've only been running now since June to get back into shape, but so far the fever has stuck. Believe Brickell Life will at least be running the half next year. To all those who ran, big congratulations.
