Brickell Life Balcony Garden

The garden is starting to really take shape. Tomato plants are beginning to fruit and so is the eggplant. Carrots have taken root and the herbs and lettuce are doing nicely. Purple and sweet basil have already made it into many dishes in the Brickell Life test kitchen along with our oregano and flat leaf parsley.

We're learning as we go, but proving that you can grow sustainable and organic produce more than 100 feet in the air on a balcony. It just takes some planning and dedication. We're looking forward to the first harvest in a few weeks and some fun cooking with our own veggies in the kitchen.

We'll keep you posted from time to time with progress.

  1. What direction does your balcony face? Mine faces North and only gets sun during the summer. I found it impossible to grow anytime of edible plant but succulents seems to be doing just fine.

  2. Face south, so I'm able to get a good dose of morning sun and some in the afternoon. North facing is tough, especially this time of year.

  3. We face south also (Emerald) and I find it difficult to keep some of the more delicate herbs going during the summer. Never had luck with tomatoes either.
    Great blog!

  4. Irina - summer is tough. It's just too hot. I've never tried to actually grow in the summer yet as this is our first year with our balcony garden, but I'm looking forward to trying some things. Will keep you posted.
